Out of the cage

No positive rhetorics: I don’t think that everything is going to be fine!

No words of hope, I have lost mine a long time ago when I realized that we will never change because we don’t want to.

Just one reflection. We all feel stressed and depressed for the fact that now our freedom has been so severely limited.

…and we have not been deported! We still have food and our shelters, most of us still have their beloved ones!

What about all the animals that we lock up in cages every year?

I am thinking of zoos, circus, labs, farms, I am thinking of birds in our apartments, that have lost their ability to fly , dolphins and other species in aquariums, hamsters…

The list is so incredibly long that I am not able to mention all the species.

We kidnap them every year from their habitat to move them to our places, despite the km and miles, despite the different climates, despite the fact that they were meant to be free!

It’s such a relief for Mother Nature that we are finally calming down that I already feel sorry for the day we will come back to our daily activities.

Yes, everybody is saying that after all this mess, everything will be different!

Really? It would be the first time that we learn a lesson that quickly!

I always think of Confucius, for personal reasons but also for the humankind:

Who wants to do something will find a way, who doesn’t will find an excuse

Someone sent me a picture of two mallards bathing in the famous fountain Barcaccia, right in front of the Spanish Steps, in Rome.

I am sure they can appreciate it much more than some humans!

By the way I have found this shot so moving that I have started looking for similar images in the web.

We have been affected by Covid 19 just a little bit earlier than other countries but I am sure that soon you could witness the same scenes in your cities as well!

I specify that none of these pictures is mine, they comes from the web.

I have also seen some butterflies the other day but they were flying too fast and I was too slow!

I think the last time I have seen them in Rome was something like 35 years ago!

I will leave you with a video.

Dolphins right in front of Reggio Calabria . Here the sea is fairly clean but due to the continuous traffic of ferries to and from Sicily it is not that common to see them.

  1. Yes, I find this the most moving as well, how the nature rejoices. How happy it is that we are confined. I’ve seen most of these but not that dolphin at the Miramare. Gorgeous! Thank you for collecting these. Of course, if a pack of wolves decides to surround our condominio, I wouldn’t be so pleased… and bestia neither.

    1. Don’t worry, Manja, wolves are more scared of humans than us of them! You don’t risk anything. By the way bestia looks so brave when he got upset that I am sure he would protect you like a lionπŸ’ͺπŸ€—

    1. Thank you, Jo. To tell you the truth, I was already disgusted by certain mechanisms before, they were unsustainable also for us but we refused to admit it. We could live in peace with the other species populating this planet or at least try to respect them! But unfortunately it’s not something that is going to happen in this era 😩

  2. I particularly like the two mallards waiting for the ferry. And I also like your comment that there will be some element of sadness when this is all over

    1. Thank you so much paolsoren. Yes, I think that the most sad of all will be the other species. Our is already planning days over days of parties and raves! πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜©

  3. Wonderful! Thank you for sharing! Loved the video! Where I am located we are far away from the coast. Right in the center of the US. Pretty land locked. So I enjoy videos of the seas in other places.

    1. I have so many videos that I took but they are too heavy to load them here, I will find some other way to show you the sea of Ostia. It’s not the best I have ever seen but I live very close to it. In this crazy lock down period, the sea is what I miss the most! I am glad that we share this passion, ShaunaπŸ€—
